Use the number on your card. Say “fraud,” request an urgent recall and ask for a case reference.
How to report a scam
Where to report a scam, what to gather first, and what never to do. Plus a one-step portal that builds your report pack in your browser.
The first hour
Do not announce the report or ask the person for a refund. Preserve the silent recall window.
Screenshot messages, profiles, payments, links and wallet addresses before accounts disappear.
Gather this before you report
Build one evidence pack and send the same version everywhere. Open a card for the detail.
Every messageConversation + timestamps
Keep the full conversation unedited. Export it if the platform allows; otherwise screenshot it in order.
The profileName + page + platform
Save the name, avatar, profile URL, where you met, and the group or page involved.
Every addressLinks + wallets + numbers
Copy links, wallet addresses, phone numbers and verification pages exactly, character for character.
The money trailAmount + date + reference
Include transaction IDs, references, amounts, dates and the payment method: card, bank, crypto or gift cards.
Your timelineStart + ask + payment
Write one short chronology: when contact started, what was requested and when money moved.
Where to report
File with the national centre and the institution that moved the money. Filing with both is normal.
FTC ReportFraud + FBI IC3 + your bank’s fraud line.
Action Fraud + your bank or card issuer.
Use your national centre; European Scam Awareness maps the correct route.
Your bank’s fraud line + the platform’s report-a-scam route.
What never to do
- Do not re-engage the person. No "one last conversation to get my money back." The script is built for the follow-up — and the follow-up is where the second loss begins.
- Do not pay anyone to recover the money. No legitimate recovery path asks you to pay to start — the bank, the police, the regulator. A "recovery agent" who asks for a fee, or in crypto only, is the second hit: the same script in a new uniform. Read the case file on it.
- Do not report where the scammer tells you to. If a message instructs you to report somewhere, that instruction is part of the script. Report where your bank and your national centre say to.
Paste the address, pick what it is, and get a ready-to-send abuse report with the right doors listed. It runs in your browser and stores nothing.
